Leoš Janáček The Diary of One Who Disappeared

Music by Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade and David Matthews is juxtaposed with Janáček’s unclassifiable work The Diary of One Who Disappeared in the English translation by Nobel laureate, Seamus Heaney. Part dramatic song cycle, part miniature opera, Janáček’s feverish fable of obsessive love, desire and escape tells the story of a naive young farmer’s son who falls desperately in love with Zefka, a wild gypsy girl.
